UI Design – Bed Alarm App

Bed is an imaginary alarm app for those who have irregular bedtimes like myself. When you flip the switch, the app sets your alarm for 8 hours in the future. If anything in your calendar conflicts with that, then the app will wake you up earlier with enough time to get ready, and add any remaining time to the sleep debt counter. When you have extra time to sleep, then the app will wait to wake you up until it replenishes as much of your sleep debt as it can. Hopefully, this way, someone can hope to get at least 8 hours of sleep on average, and be able to check how much sleep deprivation they are subjecting themselves to.

The design itself was made in Penpot, a richly featured open-source UI design app similar to Figma. It was then brought in to InDesign for presentation to the class via a slide deck. I think it’s a really nest idea, though I think I should have gone a little further by looking into how the settings part of the app would function. I also like how the look of the switch also evokes pulling up the covers on a neatly-made bed.
